Marco Polo Day Celebration — October 17, 2010

The Two Bridges Neighborhood Council is pleased to announce the signing of a contract between Two Bridges and Career Sports and Entertainment. The relationship was formed for the purpose of promoting Chinatown and Little Italy as a prime destination point for tourists and commerce, thereby benefiting the commercial interests of restaurants and merchants within the Chinatown Little Italy Historic District and to highlight the cultural and educational aspects of both cultures. Planning is already underway for the Marco Polo Day event scheduled for October 17, 2010. Photos from the celebration can be found on the Two Bridges Events page. The Lower East Side — An Endangered Place

Two Bridges Neighborhood Council has completed a film called The Lower East Side: An Endangered Place. Through interviews with a broad spectrum of Lower East residents, this new documentary explores the impact of gentrification on their lives. The filmmakers interviewed long-term residents and new arrivals, people on all sides of the complex and controversial issue of gentrification. The film is intended to spark a dialogue — and eventually a campaign — to preserve the diversity, vitality, and unique culture of the Lower East Side. Read more...

Two Bridges Welcomes Community Planning Intern

Rebecca Gafvert is a transplant from the Midwest, but has lived, worked, and volunteered in New York City. With a background in Political Science and International Studies, she is currently working towards a Masters in Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati and completing a thesis about predicting gentrification in neighborhoods. She has worked as a planning intern for an affordable housing nonprofit in Cincinnati's inner city and has two years of experience as an English conversation partner team leader at AAFE and Hamilton Madison House. She is excited to bring her knowledge of planning and experience in the neighborhood to Two Bridges Neighborhood Council.
